Favorite piece of band music: Rhapsody in Blue, Every time I hear it play I think of the great experience I had playing in the OHS band.
Favorite Band Trip: Anyone playing in the band around this time will never forget the trip to Walt Disney World. For many of us it was a first for alot of things. Course you have to remember the torrential downpour that canceled the main parade (the first time in it's history at that time), but we were able to play later. And can anyone see a bake sale and NOT think of all the ones we had to raise funds for the trip?
Presently living in: I live in Lynnwood, Washington(suburb of Seattle) with my husband Jeff, a video producer and my daughter Stephanie, just graduated from high school with no clue of what she wants to do! I moved here after graduating from SUC at Oswego. I worked many years for a printshop, but have returned to my first love, education. I teach ESL (English as a Second Language)at an elementary school.

Favorite piece of band music: Trittico
Favorite Band Trip: My favorite trip was the 1973 Marching Band Trip to Walt Disney World in Florida. My favorite memory was the time the cymbal detached from the hand strap during our performance of Trittico. It was at a Tri-Band Festival and we were being conducted by the composer of the piece, Vaclav Nelhybel. When I crashed the cymbals, one cymbal flew straight up in the air! Luckily I caught the cymbal as it came back down without anyone getting hit!!
After OHS, I attended SUNY Canton. I have worked at C&S Engineers for my first 3 years after college, Niagara Mohawk for the following 16-1/2 years, Yankee Atomic in Massachusetts for 2 years, and now for Cooper Bussmann for 3 years. Both Barb and I are OHS Band Parent Boosters and attend all the various field band performances and band and choral concerts faithfully. I also sing with the Humble Men Plus One, a men's vocal music group that sings for senior citizens, nursing homes, etc. in the area. I can't forget that I also sing in Barb's Choir at the Minetto United Methodist Church!!

Favorite Band Trip: Going to Disney World in 1973. Marching down Main Street was the greatest. My funniest memory was of Karen Janice locked to the fence. She was always getting picked on....
Presently living in: I am in Oswego. I am married to Rick Glerum who graduated in 1974 and have two children who were both in band. Joe who played Alto Sax in Marching Band and Tenor Sax in Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band and Aimee who played Clarinet in Symphonic Band. We were both chaperones for many trips and enjoyed it a great deal. The kids were great!!!! Working at a gift shop (Harbor Towne) and loving it...With both Joe and Aimee in their 20's I don't have to worry "toooo much" abut them.

I will graduate from Oswego State in May, 2000 with a BA in Music and a minor in Museum Studies. I am currently Director of Music at Minetto United Methodist Church and Director of the New Horizons Band, a band for people ages 50 and older who either used to play when they were younger or always wanted to and never had an opportunity. It's great fun, and the members absolutely love it! I am married to Tom Syrell (the drummer, not the French horn player) and we have two amazing daughters - Natalie, age 21 and Elizabeth, age 15. Natalie is a former Marching Buc (mellophone) and Beth is currently a member (mellophone last year, trumpet this year.)
