1999 Marching Buccaneers

"Gloriosa"

.The Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers will once again be on the national spot-light come January 1, 2000 when the “Marching Bucs” participate in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship and the MicroAge Fiesta Bowl Parade.  The parade is broadcast to a national television audience numbered in the millions and the field band competition features some of the very finest bands in the country. The Marching Buccaneers accepted their second invitation to the Fiesta Bowl, as the band made their first appearance back in 1989.In delivering his message to the band members and parents at a recent meeting, William Palange: Director of Bands at the High School noted that “This is a once in a lifetime trip for our student musicians. It will be an experience that they will always remember”.  Mr. Palange continued by saying, “The Oswego community has been very supportive of the Marching Buccaneers over the years’ and I believe that this year will be no exception”.  

 The OHS Marching Band along with the OHS Band Parents Association has embarked on an aggressive fundraising campaign, which began April 1, 1999 . These fundraising activities include, monthly breakfasts’ and dinners held at the ELKS Club, the annual FREE Car Wash-A-Thon; Saturday May 22, 1999 at Wal-Mart sponsored by Parts America and Wal-Mart, “The Great Aluminum Can RoundUP” on Saturday June 5, 1999 sponsored by Alcan Aluminum Corporation and The Can Manufacturers Institute of Washington, DC; to name just a few.  

With a band size approaching 175 members, Mr. Palange informed the members that “This year’s program will have a special segment involving all the band members and percussion type instruments, stay tuned for more details.”

For the new band members in the program, marching practice will begin in late June, when the veteran band members join the “rookies” in preparation for their biggest community event, the 4^th of July Parade.

The 1999 edition of the Marching Buccaneers known as “The Pride of Oswego”, look to carry on the tradition of music excellence that has long been associated with the Oswego City School District as they kick-off their fundraising drive towards 2000 and the Fiesta Bowl activities.
